Ready or not, it's time again for "Perez's Picks" where editor Ramiro Perez discusses great new releases. Today: Slasher Sam, by Simon Petersen. Author Petersen is a popular travel blogger from New Zealand. He's also a connoisseur of horror films, and his knowledge of the genre shows in Slasher Sam. The titular killer is an ordinary person with a day job who just so happens to also be a serial killer. Looking to garner immortal infamy, the killer pays homage to all the great slasher films by gutting victims in creative ways, then posting it for the world to see at SlasherSam.com (seriously, visit that website!). It's all done in splendid first-person, putting readers in the slash zone when the blood and guts go flying. It's a fresh take on horror: genre-savvy, self-referential, fourth-wall-breaking, and at times humorous with buckets of the red stuff thrown in for good measure. Just remember: in cyberspace, everyone can hear you scream. |
