Darkwater Syndicate Adds Authors Dr. Julio Varela, Buck Buchanan To Lineup

1/4/2019

Darkwater Syndicate is pleased to announce two new members to its growing family of authors. Keep your eyes peeled for their books, coming a little later this year.

Dr. Julio A. Varela: Alma Mutters
Julio A. Varela teaches undergraduate literature, humanities, and philosophy courses in South Florida, where he began teaching in 1993. Dr. Varela’s writing credits include Vortex to Virus, Myth to Meme: The Literary Evolution of Nihilism and Chaos in Modernism and Postmodernism, published in 2009 by VDM Verlag, as well as a number of book reviews for Bridges: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Theology, Philosophy, History, and Science.

He received his doctoral degree in humanities from Florida State University in 2004. Dr. Varela lives in Miami, Florida. Darkwater Syndicate will publish his first novel, Alma Mutters, in early 2019. The book is a satirical look at high school education, recreational drugs, contemporary memes, rock & roll, and the overall degeneracy of the human race from one generation to the next.

Buck Buchanan: The Secret Files of Hugo and Victoria
Judging by the characters in his book, you might think the author, J.E. “Buck” Buchanan, is out there around the third ring of Saturn. In reality, he’s firmly grounded, which is where the mystery side of his novel, The Secret Files of Hugo and Victoria, comes in. Buck conducted and supervised major criminal investigations (homicide, smuggling, official corruption, fraud, etc.) for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for a good chunk of his life. The secret files in his novel aren’t based on those experiences because according to him, they were much weirder than mutant vampires, werewolves, and witches.

He wasn’t born into a life of crime (writing). After he escaped high school with minimal scars from sports and young love, he studied and worked at engineering and business before settling into crime fighting. Since then, in addition to consulting, he has focused on writing, winning several short story contests and conducting a writers’ workshop for the Palm Beach County Library. He lives in South Florida with his wife Susan and every stray dog and cat she can drag in. He says he can’t complain about it because she dragged him in too.

The Secret Files of Hugo and Victoria blends laugh-out-loud comedy with noir mystery and paranormal action. Catch it February 28, 2019.

We are pleased to announce the addition of four new authors who will be contributing to volume three of our Shadows And Teeth anthology. This volume will have more star power than ever before, thanks to the world-class talent our series has garnered. Read on, and let us introduce you to the masters of horror featured in volume three.

Guy N. Smith
Guy N. Smith is a best-selling author with over 100 books to his name. Genres include: horror, mystery fiction, westerns, children's fiction and a number of non-fiction titles. He first wrote for the sporting press in 1963 and over the ensuing years contributed many articles to The Gamekeeper & Countryside, Shooting Times and several other publications. He has also penned many short stories for anthologies including the legendary London Mystery Selection. In between his writing he has had a varied and interesting career: he worked in banking, was a private detective and had his own shotgun cartridge loading business.

Adam Millard
Adam Millard is the author of twenty-two novels, twelve novellas, and more than two hundred short stories, which can be found in various collections, magazines, and anthologies. Probably best known for his post-apocalyptic and comedy-horror fiction, Adam also writes fantasy/horror for children, as well as bizarro fiction for several publishers. His work has recently been translated for the German market.

Nathan Robinson
Nathan Robinson lives in Scunthorpe, England with his wife/editor and twin boys. He's contributed to over twenty different anthologies so far, with lots more on the horizon. His crime thriller Top of the Heap was adapted in a podcast by www.pseudopod.org to rave reviews. Starers, released by Severed Press in 2012 gained much praise, with fans hungry for a sequel.

Richard Ayre
Richard Ayre was born in Northumberland, Northern England, and now lives in Newcastle upon Tyne where he continues to write horror fiction. At an impressionable age he fell in love with new wave Heavy Metal and rock music, and at the same time read his first James Herbert novel. The combination of these two magnificent things led him to write Minstrel's Bargain, a tale of music and horror. Minstrel's Bargain is the first novel in the Prophecy Books. Richard has also written Minstrel’s Renaissance, the second of that trilogy, and Point of Contact, a sci-fi chiller, as well as the short story anthology A Hatful of Shadows. When not writing, Richard can be found zooming around the Northumberland countryside on his motorcycle, Tanya.

Horror Novelist Nicholas Paschall Signs With Darkwater Syndicate

12/23/2016

It is with great pleasure that we announce horror writer Nicholas Paschall has joined the Syndicate.

Born and raised in Texas, Nicholas Paschall started his career in writing at an early age, jotting stories onto scraps of paper to later read to his schoolyard friends. The subject matter wasn't entirely school-friendly, but being asked to stop only made him want to press on. Later, after a stint as a journalist and editor, he launched his career as a horror author.

Mr. Paschall has served two years as a recurring columnist for Dark Eclipse Magazine and is a current columnist for The London Horror Society. He is a prolific writer, his work having been published in nineteen different printed anthologies and magazines.

Paschall's upcoming novel, Father of Flesh, explores some dark themes. In it, an occult professor, his hostile nympho student, and a cursed graduate student take on an old god's minions in a struggle to keep the monstrous entity from awakening.

The novel is scheduled for release in 2017.

Horror Novelist Simon Petersen Signs With Darkwater Syndicate

12/16/2016

Today we welcome horror novelist Simon Petersen of New Zealand to Darkwater Syndicate. Mr. Petersen is an experienced journalist, an inveterate blogger, co-author of comedic travel guide The Xenophobe’s Guide to the Kiwis, and now an emerging writer of horror fiction. His upcoming novel, Slasher Sam, will be released through Darkwater Syndicate in 2017.

Slasher Sam isn't your typical horror book. Taking a page from the Scream horror series, the book features a horror movie obsessed serial killer whose exploits are posted to a blog for the world to read. Indeed, the book consists of the killer's actual blog posts -- which is why the killer gets credited as a co-author in a meta-fictional twist. It's written in the first-person perspective, putting readers so close to the action that they're practically in the splash zone when the blood and guts go flying.

And is there ever blood -- Sam's a savvy killer, too well-versed in slasher films to make rookie mistakes, which is why the kill count scores well into the double digits.

When killer/blogger Sam isn't describing the latest kill in gory detail, the blogger discusses personal life, horror trivia, as well as any other thoughts that might cross a serial killer's mind.

Slasher Sam is scheduled for released in 2017.

Blending elements of mystery, paranormal horror, and suspense, don't miss The Man In The Forest, due for release in 2017.

Two-Book Deal Signed With Florida Author Christopher F. Cobb

12/2/2016

It's our pleasure to welcome sci-fi author Christopher F. Cobb of Jupiter, Florida, to Darkwater Syndicate.

Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Mr. Cobb eventually ventured off to the wilds of New York City for several years to experience the world of acting. His life path took him back home to South Florida where he earned college degrees at Florida Atlantic University. He now lives in Jupiter – the city, not the planet – with his true love and talented artist, Alicia, their two weird cats, Simon and Weezy, and his amazingly wonderful daughter, Emma. He is a member of the Bloody Pens Writers Group, as well as the South Florida Writer’s Association.

The two-book deal contemplates the hotly anticipated return of Cobb's first book, A Moon Called Sun, which New York Times bestselling author Piers Anthony calls: "intriguingly different science fiction/fantasy/horror, wildly ranging, sometimes hard-hitting, not for maiden aunts."

The novel follows the exploits of Floridian Trace Jackson. A botched alien abduction sends him back in time to 1818. He soon meets a young Seminole woman, and the two strike up a relationship. Unfortunately for them, Trace's distant ancestor, General Andrew Jackson, is hell-bent on driving out the Seminoles by whatever means necessary. It will take every bit of Trace's wit and resolve to save his lady love from Jackson's inexorable advance and maybe, just maybe, find a way back home.

His second upcoming book, The Slant Six, is a space opera thriller in the same vein as Star Wars and The Fifth Element. This new release ingeniously mixes sci-fi with intense chase scenes and a sprinkling of NASCAR-style race action. In it, Loman Phin, a spaceship racer past his prime, is hired to make a delivery across the galaxy. He's caught up in an ancient feud when he realizes his "package" is actually a human being. Meanwhile, danger is always hot on their heels in the form of a massive space freighter turned death machine.

Both A Moon Called Sun and The Slant Six are scheduled for release in 2017.

Meet The Author - Cavanaugh K. Sweeny

Just who is that strapping old buck of a Texan we've been seeing around? That's none other than Cav, our newest author.

Cavanaugh Kellough Sweeny, MBA, JD, DDS, BS, is a self-made Texan millionaire. After working for international oil companies for twenty years as part of a prison labor program, he achieved the American Dream with a winning ticket at the racetrack.
Cav – as his friends call him – is a highly successful motivational speaker. He is not a lawyer, dentist, or even a motivational speaker, but through the power of delusion (read: positive thinking), he believes he is. Admittedly, Mr. Sweeny may be a tad senile, but he more than makes up for this with his extensive gun collection.
His book, "Your Life Sucks, Buy This Book," details Mr. Sweeny's seven-step program to transform your life in ways you never thought possible or ethical. It's a runaway success, already a national bestseller (of no place on Earth) even before its publication.

Whether it's your career, your spiritual development, or your degree of personal fulfillment, the information in Mr. Sweeny's book will do absolutely nothing towards making your life better, but your money will get him that much closer to buying another vacation home. It's chock full of useless advice, pointless anecdotes, and advice to get you fired.

The book's release is scheduled for late January 2016. Look for it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Audible, iTunes, and at major retailers.
